About Me!!
I am a first grade teacher at the Vera Wilsie Elementary School in Newaygo. I have been teaching since I got out of college in 1997. I received my teaching degree at Cornerstone University and my Masters at Marygrove College. I was married to Becky in 1995, and have a eighteen year old boy named Justun and a thirteen year old girl named Ashley. I enjoy camping, playing on my computer, reading, and spending time with my family. I grew up in Liberia, West Africa, where education was very important. This is what got me interested in teaching. I spent most of my younger years from age four to fourteen in Liberia, West Africa. My parents were missionaries. When I was a kid, I liked soccer, marbles, and hunting. I lived in a small town called Tappi. They had an open market like a big flea market where you could buy everything from food to batteries. I cut firewood and hunted animals to sell in the market to buy many things including food. I bought rubber so my friends and I could make slingshots. We used these slingshots to hunt birds, squirrels, and other small animals. In Liberia it was cultural to hunt for food. When I got older, I had guns to hunt bigger game. Once I had to kill a wildcat with a machete to save myself from being killed. Snakes were a constant threat in the jungles, but they were a tasty treat when killed. For most of my elementary years, I was taught in a one room school house by one teacher. In second grade, I went to the elementary school in Newaygo. In eighth grade I went to Newaygo Middle School. In ninth grade I went to a boarding school in Ivory Coast. For the rest of high school, I went to Newaygo High School. I am very happy to be teaching in Newaygo.
